Can`t get a basic bank account

Being unable to find a bank account can be very frustrating. The Financial Inclusion Taskforce recently reported that in 2006-2007, 2.09 million UK adults in 1.37 million households were `unbanked` - without access to even a basic bank account.

Why do people have trouble getting a bank account?

There are a number of reasons people may find getting a bank account difficult.

• Made bankrupt in the past
• No credit history (e.g. new to the country)
• Bad credit history - previous arrears, CCJs, etc.

Without an account, there may be no other choice but to keep cash at home - which is obviously not as safe as putting it into a bank account. You will also miss out on a range of useful facilities, such as paying for things by card, and setting up direct debits for bills.
