Answer a few simple questions and find out which debt solutions could help you, based on your circumstances.
If you find yourself in a situation where you simply can`t afford to meet your debt repayments, you`ll want to find a solution as soon as possible, before your situation deteriorates further.
One option for Scottish residents is a Debt Payment Programme (DPP) under the Debt Arrangement Scheme (DAS). DAS is a statutory debt management tool that could help to make your problem debts manageable once again.
To qualify for a DPP, you must have multiple unsecured debts (i.e. two or more). You`ll only be eligible if you can`t afford your full monthly repayments, but can still afford to repay the debts in full over a reasonable timeframe.
This will mean your debts may take longer to repay overall, although interest and charges on all your debts will be frozen.
To apply for a DPP, you must use an accredited Money Adviser, who will review whether or not DAS is an appropriate debt solution for you.
Under the DAS, your Money Adviser can help you to set up your DPP, which will inform lenders how much you can pay each month and how long it will take to repay your debts in full.
If your DPP is accepted, your Money Adviser will appoint a Payment Distributor, who is responsible for sending payments to your creditors on your behalf. You will make a single payment each month to the Payment Distributor. This will continue either until your circumstances change or your debts are repaid.
